Conserve gas.

When on a longer cruise and the consumption of stores and fuel is a consideration one means of reducing your cooking gas use is to ensure that when the kettle is boiled for hot drinks, you only put enough water in the kettle for those drinks.

Normally people just fill the kettle to the brim then put it on the gas, this can result in heating water unnecessarily and consuming more gas than you need.
