Waterproof pilotage plans.
A written pilotage plan is essential when entering an unfamiliar harbour, especially at night or in bad weather and short handed.
One of the problems is that if it is in your pocket, it can very rapidly be reduced to paper mache and become useless.
A simple solution is to carry a supply of ziplock food bags onboard. They are cheap enough to be used one then thrown away, do not take up much space and will protect your plan in any condition.
Another more expensive option some skippers adopt, is to use a hill walkers map case. They last a long time but some can be a little bulky to use.
